*Jo closes her eyes, wishing she could tell him to just come home. But she doesn’t, can’t. Not until Adam is contained* Its perfect. Thank you…I’m going to fix this, Ben. It’s not your fault. I love you…I’ll see you soon.
*shushes him soothingly* It’s not. I promise… But right now I need to know you’re safe, okay? I swear it’s going to be fine - I’m fine. You and Casey just….stay away from the apartment until I call you back okay? Please.
Adam got turned into a demon…words
and knives were exchanged. I’m okay…I was an angel at the time. But…I need you to stay away from the apartment for a couple hours okay? I love you and I promise I’ll explain everything as soon as the spell on Adam wears off.
…Don’t freak out, Benji, I’m okay.
ya know, mostly.
Jo laughed and ruffled Ben’s hair. “I’m tall enough to do this now,” he teased. “And you don’t have to worry about leaving me alone…I’m definitely seeing the perks of guy over child. Except…” Jo trailed off, shifting on the stool. “Things are just…weird…and awkward like this,” he said, blushing slightly.
Jo grinned around a mouthful of cracker and nodded, swallowing the bite. “Yeah, it’s good. Also, I didn’t eat dinner,” he admitted with another laugh.
Jo smiled, glad that Ben seemed comfortable, both with the gentle nudge toward his past and the fact that his girlfriend was suddenly a man. “You’re welcome,” he said simply, giving Ben’s arm another gentle squeeze. It was odd, displaying affection for him in this body and Jo didn’t want to make Ben uncomfortable so he brought his hand back to the plate of crackers and grabbed a second.
Jo reached over and put his hand on Ben’s arm. “Hey… I get that. It’s okay, I was just curious. I mean, we’ve never really talked about why you left home or anything. And we don’t have to…” he cut himself off with a shake of his head, “Clearly being a guy doesn’t fix the rambling problem.”
Jo laughed. “See, now I feel like we should have played tee-ball to have earned them,” he said with a grin, “Speaking of your mom…have you talked to her much recently?” His voice became a bit hesitant when he brought up Ben’s mom, since they hadn’t really talked about Lisa much.
"No, as far as I know it’s not permanent…that’d be super awkward," Jo replied with a smile. He grabbed a cracker off the plate, examining it before taking a bite. "Yummy."
